Motivation

(Extract from my PhD thesis Literature Review as of 2022-08-29. It was my writing from the past, which I am now trying to get over it and starting fresh)

First, cell-cell communication is mechanisms that enable one cell to influence the behavior of itself or another cell to ultimately coordinate biological processes within a tissue. Intercellular communications are vital to maintain tissue homeotasis, perform single-cell functions (i.e. immune response to pathogen) and cell development (Armingol2021).

Second, Through advances in molecular biology, we can now intensively characterise these signalling mechanisms and even simulate the cell-cell signalling networks to better understand the principles of how the interactions between cells can drive biological function (Sprinzak2010, Toda2019). Furthermore, technology development enables us to conduct more experiments in cells within living organisms (Helmchen2005, Periasamy2013), and spawns new means to study the cell microenvironment within tissue contex

The availability of spatiallly resolved expression profiles of cells population within it microenvironment provides a new approach to study
